How Often Should I Clean My Water Feature??
The cleaning frequency for a water feature depends on its type, size, and exposure to debris. Here’s a general guideline:
Small Water Features (Fountains, Bubbling Rocks, Container Gardens)
Every 1–2 Weeks:
- Remove leaves, dirt, and algae buildup.
- Check the pump for clogs and clean filters.
- Wipe down surfaces to prevent mineral deposits.
Refill with fresh water if evaporation occurs.
Medium Water Features (Pondless Waterfalls, Small Ponds, Reflecting Pools)
Every 2–4 Weeks:
- Skim out debris, remove sludge, and/or other sediment buildup.
- Clean the pump and filter system.
- Can use an algaecide or beneficial bacteria to prevent green water.
Large Water Features (Koi Ponds, Large Waterfalls, Streams)
Every 1–2 Months:
- Clean out excess algae and debris.
- Check and service your pump to ensure it’s working properly
- Inspect fish health (if applicable).
- Deep clean and drain once or twice a year if needed.
Pool Water Features (Sheer Descents, Deck Jets, Waterfalls)
Weekly Maintenance (Part of Pool Care Routine):
- Brush away scale or calcium buildup.
- Remove leaves and debris from the water.
- Ensure proper water flow and filtration.
